My studio and field rates are the same: $40 per hour, starting when the artist loads in gear and ends when we have finished the work. Field rates apply from when I load in until I’ve packed my gear (the beer I drink with you after I’ve packed my car is not charged).
The reason I appear to charge so much is this: because I mix in my own time and at my own speed, it’s too difficult to assess the time I work on your mix.
If you want me to master the record ( and I would recommend the mastering be done by a more qualified individual), the rate is $10 per track each time it is mastered.
These rates apply to straight forward sessions that I am not directly producing. (The difference between being an engineer and a producer is explained in greater detail here.)
Alternative Payment Info
I am open to a barter instead of cold-hard cash. Here’s what I want for X-mas: a Gibson ES-135 (or comparable semi-hollow body electric guitar — the older the better) with a Bigsby tremolo; a nice B.C. Rich Warlock with a Kahler Trem; a Telecaster Thinline with humbuckers; antique or analogue tube preamps and reel to reels; antique microphones; a motorcycle or Vespa scooter; a big-screen digital TV or a vacation in Tailand (not Mexico!).
